As the New Year approaches, many teenagers are readying themselves to hunt a summer job. With this failing economy the number of jobs for teens are following, and next year may be worse than the last. Only those teens that think ahead will have a job waiting on them. Many teens just don't want to take up a job; they'd rather be enjoying their free time. However, those who wish to help their families or make money to save up to go to college need to do all they can during the summer months to have enough money saved up.
Kids around the age of thirteen to fourteen are going to have next to no jobs available for them. As parent teach the blossoming teenagers who are starting to approach the age of 15 about having their own responsibilities, the teens venture out to learn about the real world. But many jobs require you to be at least sixteen years old and finding a job even at that age is tough already, it can't be a real struggle to find a job in such a situation.
As mentioned above there are limiting factors for age, and even the law has limitations for younger teens. It is for the safety of the teen to keep them protected from any dangerous situations that may occur on the job. Teens need to stay in school so they are limited by law to not work more than a certain number of hours. They can however work a few more hours during the summer time, but there is still a limit.
A great number of companies choose not to employ teenagers between 13 and 15 years of age because of immaturity and the government regulations that pertain to them. The majority of employers will just decide not to hire young teens. Another obstacle is that employers often have to obtain additional insurance that makes their overhead increase.
Because jobs are really hard to find for young teens, many end up doing extra chores for parents or mowing lawns around the neighbor so they can have spending money. Of course you can't forget about those who end up baby sitting or house sitting. But these random odd jobs won't be enough to supplement a serious attempt to save money. And of course they always desire to have a real job where the income was steady.
