Wedding Reception Bands - Know What To Look For

By David Bullen

Wedding reception bands create the mood for your reception by the type of music they play. If they play lively dance music, your guests can let their hair down and dance the night away. On the other hand, your band could play quiet background music that allows guests to visit and talk with each other without having to shout.

A lot of people tend to choose a band that creates a party mood so guests can dance the night away to popular tunes from the 50s to present. Wedding reception bands usually play a wide range of songs so guest of all ages will hear their favorite tunes.

Music can also be provided that is of particular interest to the happy couple. Any good band will do this for you and you will probably not be putting them to trouble as good bands love to learn new songs in rehearsal as it keeps them fresh.

When shopping for wedding reception bands, it is not a good idea to skimp on cost. If you choose the wrong band your big day may end as a big flop. It is worth it to seek out a band that has a good reputation, even if it costs a little more.

Although pub bands are cheap they lack the experience and profession that you get with a seasoned wedding reception band, that has probably played many similar gigs before so are comfortable with their set up, the occasion and the needs of the guests.

Also, if there is an emergency at the last minute and the band can't perform, a wedding band probably has contacts with other wedding reception bands so they can find a suitable replacement at the last minute. If a bar band can't make it, you may just be out of luck.

Now that you have booked your band and chosen your songs the work does not end there. First check that your venue is licensed to play live music. Some venues also have a sound limiter which cuts power to the bands equipment if the sound exceeds a certain limit so let the band know if this is the case.

You should also make sure there is adequate power supply and enough room for them to set up their equipment. Let the band know ahead of time about parking arrangements and how they will be able to load and unload their equipment.

Most importantly, find out if the venue that hosts your reception has a license for live music. That is something you definitely want to know in advance because if they do not have a license, then you won't be able to hire a live band.

Candle Waxes: Scented Candles

By Haitham Al-Ubaidi

Candle Waxes for Scented Candles

There are numerous types of scented candle available on the market today. The most common is a paraffin scented candle such as Yankee Candles or Price's Candles. These use paraffin as their fuel and are made from a fast depleting resource, crude oil. Paraffin is a hydrocarbon similar to petrol, diesel and other crude oil derivatives and burns very well (as you would expect). In burning, paraffin releases all manner of toxic substances such as benzene and carbon monoxide. Not good from a health and environmental stand point. More on this later.

Other more natural waxes are available. Soy wax is one such product. It is a natural plant based wax made by crushing soy beans and hydrogenating the soy oil by passing hydrogen through it. This forms a solid wax (at regular temperatures). The remains of the crushed soy beans are not wasted. They are fed to cattle who in turn return the goodness to their pasture. The process of making Soy wax is similar to that of making margarine. The finished product is not too dissimilar either. Soy wax is creamy and soft, burns very well and makes for a clean, non toxic fuel for a scented candle. The resultant gases from burning soy wax based waxes are clean in that they have been tested and found not to contain the toxins and carcinogens associated with paraffin.

Other natural waxes are available. These include palm wax and beeswax. Both of these do suffer from some disadvantages. Some carry their own scent such as beeswax, others are too unstable at room temperature and the remainder are just plain expensive. These problematic issues render these other natural waxes unsuitable for the vast majority of scented candle making.

Paraffin Wax

Paraffin is undoubtedly a fine burning wax. It ignites well and produces a good strong flame. So it should given its origins as a derivative of crude oil. The major drawbacks to using this wax in scented candle manufacture are the sustainability of the resource from whence it came and also the toxicity of the products of combustion in its use. Who would knowingly burn something in their home that the scientific community recommends be used in a well ventilated space? Surely that defeats the point of a scented candle.

The primary reason that the large candle manufacturers continue to use paraffin waxes is cost. Paraffin is typically one third the cost of a good quality soy wax. The increased profits on each candle made sees the large companies continuing to use this product irrespective of its drawbacks.

The toxic and carcinogenic emissions from burning paraffin candles were recently put forward by numerous UK newspaper articles. The same articles indicated that burning soy wax candles did not emit unsafe substances. This is a clear reason for the use of soy wax in scented candles and discontinuing the use of paraffin.

Soy wax

Soy wax creates a wide and deep melt pool in scented container candles. This launches the fragrance into the air. Besides these excellent burn qualities, soy wax is from a sustainable resource, is safe and clean to handle and is carbon neutral. The obvious comparison is wood to heat our homes. As tree is to wood is to heat, so soy wax can be described as plant to wax to candle.

Remaining Waxes

Other waxes such as palm wax and beeswax suffer some problems. The stability of the wax at normal room temperature and the intrinsic scent of the wax can be overcome by costly additives. When these factors are combined with the elevated cost of these waxes and the lack of consistent quality, it no longer becomes viable to consider these waxes in scented candle manufacture.

In Summary

Based on the authors experience and the articles mentioned in the review, soy wax has been clearly found to be the most suitable scented candle base wax. The green credentials, burn characteristics and safety in use all contribute to and support this conclusion.

Installing Lighting Fixtures Outside The Home

By Scott Rodgers

The electrical lighting fixtures can definitely enhance the appeal of the home indoors and outdoors. The lighting fixtures can be used to highlight the beautiful spots of your garden area and your porch area even at night. Besides that, well-illuminated outdoor areas of the home render a new dimension to the security of the house.

First step should be to create a proper plan. Though you can also spread some strands of mini lights on smaller plants or bushes but it can become messy. Instead you can decide on a layout regarding the fixing of lights. Prepare an outline of places where you want to use the mini lights.

All the segments of the home that are visible from outside should be carefully highlighted by the lighting fixtures. The units of the home architecture such as window panes, garage doors, balcony edges etc. should be complemented by the glitters of the lighting fixtures. If you face any complication in installing the lighting fixtures then you can purchase gutter hooks from the home improvement stores.

Use strands of tiny lights in the garden area to highlight tall trees and bushes. Wrap mini lights around plants. Start the process from top to the bottom. To reach the top of tall trees, you may use ladder.

Abide by the pattern of installation decided by you beforehand. To install the lighting fixtures along the roof edges and porch beams, buy swags and dressing materials. The lighting components are wrapped in the dressings and are then hanged from the porch eaves or roof edges. To secure the cup hooks to the structures, use the screws and tighten them using the screwdriver.

Most homeowners incorporate the lighting fixtures outside their home to add to the security of the home. The sidewalk and the walkway of the home remains illuminated throughout the nights and hence, the possibility of burglaries gets minimized.

Sometimes, you may face a problem while covering the large areas outside your home spaces. The cords or the electrical wires may fall short of length while reaching out to the electrical sockets or outlets. In such a case, use extension cords to lengthen the reach.

Though it is an easier process but still you may seek the guidance of any electrician to install the mini lights.

Why Everybody Should Have Them

By Patrick Sergio

House protection cameras are becoming an increasingly well-liked way for homeowners to keep tabs on their property. Security cameras are everywhere, and I mean everywhere. When driving down the street look up and you will see video cameras on traffic lights, news stations use video surveillance to tell us about the visitors and catch news as it's happening.

Law enforcement agencies also rely on movie surveillance to be there eyes when they can't be there physically. Recently house protection surveillance has become more popular too. Once considered the exclusive realm of the rich, movie surveillance gear, like most high-tech items, is becoming increasingly affordable.

Most video protection systems consist of a number of cameras. Some outdoor systems leave one or two cameras exposed as a deterrent, whilst the other cameras capture happenings in other areas. Some surveillance cameras are designed to record sound too as movie, whilst others record only images.

Though consumer grade surveillance cameras are coming down in cost, high-end technology is never what you'd call "cheap". Every individual component of surveillance equipment can range in cost from less than $100 to a number of hundred. Whilst most video surveillance is in black and white, homeowners can spend a little extra money to obtain movie surveillance in color.

You can choose to buy the equipment for your home protection surveillance and install it yourself or you can hire a house security company to set up your cameras for you. For the exterior of your house you will need cameras at all doors including the garage door as well so that you can see out onto the street. You are able to also choose to set up dummy cameras around the exterior of the house.

Dummy cameras are cameras that aren't really cameras whatsoever they just look like cameras to fool the house invader. Whilst you still have cameras at the front and back doors the dummy cameras really save you the homeowner and considerable amount of cash.

In the movie meet the Parents they make light of such cameras. Home security surveillance does for your loved ones what the public cameras do for the media and also the law enforcement agencies. So invest in a home protection surveillance system these days and maintain your loved ones and your house secure.

Tips For Real Estate Owners Wanting To Lease Their Land

By Chris Channing

Whether you own your land outright, or you have a mortgage on it, you might want to lease it out. In that case, you had better find some tips for real estate owners wanting to lease their land.

Some farmers lease land to have a crop of corn or potatoes or a vegetable garden that they can sell all summer long. This may be a good way for you to gain an income on someone leasing your land to provide food for others. Your land will be tilled and readied for planting. And when harvest time comes, you may even speak to your renter about exchanging some of his goods for money back. It would be a win win situation.

Billboard companies often look for property, preferably vacant land, where they can place a billboard to give an opportunity to other companies to advertise in that spot. The land needs to have high traffic road frontage. Land along interstates are especially desirable. This gives the opportunity to so many companies to take advantage of the billboard spot that is available for them.

If you are in a remote area, you may contact some cellular phone companies who may want to use your land to build a tower. These leases are typically ten to twenty years.

Others may want to build on your property, and they will be happy to construct a building while they are leasing the land. Once their building is complete, they will continue to lease the property and use the building for their business. In this case, the land must be in a commercial area, or perhaps the planning board in the area will permit a variance, or change the zoning to suit the one leasing.

This is an excellent opportunity, because when their lease is over, the building remains. And you, as the land owner, now have a building to rent out. This is a chance to increase your income on the property for many years to come, providing you maintain this building.

If your land is great to hunting or fishing, you may want to lease it out by the season. If you want to change your land to a mobile home park, that would produce income on a regular basis, perhaps for years, as it is difficult and expensive to move a mobile home once it is parked and the land is leased. You will find a wide selection of opportunity when you search for tips for real estate owners wanting to lease their land.

Washington Offense In A State Of Flux

By Ross Everett

The Washington Redskins are a mess right now. Head coach Jim Zorn has a tenuous hold on his job at best and after Sunday's---6 loss to Kansas City was stripped of his offensive play calling duties. Management installed newly hired 'offensive consultant' Sherman Lewis as the new offensive play caller and the team has set up an awkward arrangement for him to get the plays to the quarterbacks. For that reason, starting QB Jason Campbell has some serious misgivings about the efficacy of the setup.

Lewis has only been out of retirement and with the team for two weeks, and has spent this week trying to ingest a crash course on the Redskins' offensive schemes. While he was learning on the job, head coach Zorn was trying to put the best spin possible on the situation':

"I need to have composure. I need to understand what the reality of the situation is, and I think our players expect me to rise up. We expect them to play under adverse conditions. We expect them to risk it all. ... I'm conscious of what's going on. I'm not naive about what's going on, and yet I have to just hold back on any feelings and make the decisions."

Quarterback Campbell is more concerned about the convoluted system of getting plays from Lewis to him:

"There'll probably be a couple of plays I have in my head just in case if some reason it doesn't get in on time."

Here's how things are supposed to work-Lewis will sit in the coaches' box above the field and read the plays off a sheet. While Lewis has years of experience working in the so called 'West Coast Offense', Zorn left doubt that he really knows what he's doing at this point stressing that Lewis "doesn't know the protections" and "doesn't know the blitz schemes." Nevertheless, he'll be running the offense when the Redskins take on Philadelphia this Monday night.

Once Lewis figures out what to call, that's when it really gets tricky. He'll relay the plays via headset not to Zorn but to offensive coordinator Sherman Smith. Smith will then inform the quarterback what to run. Zorn is left in the role of a passive bystander on offense, though he will listen in to the playcalling on his headset.

Backup quarterback Todd Collins also shared his concern with the new arrangement:

"It is unsettling. I've never gone through this before. I've never had a play caller get changed in the middle of the season."

Lewis didn't exactly evoke a lot of confidence upon his hiring, where he revealed that he'd been calling bingo games at a seniors' center to kill time since his retirement in 2004. Still, Collins gave him a guarded vote of confidence;

"I know he's been studying last year's game against the Eagles and seems to have a pretty good idea how he wants to call the game this week. It's the same plays. He might coach them a little differently or highlight some different areas, but the offense hasn't gone under an overhaul or anything like that."

The Redskins haven't scored more than 17 points in a game this season, so maybe the thinking is that things can't get any worse. The NFL odds for Monday Night's game show the Eagles a -7 road favorite with the total set at 37'.
