New Technology In Plumbing

By Bob Anoube

You don't usually think much about your plumbing-until something goes wrong. If you are having a problem or are considering replacing some of your pipes or perhaps your water heater, it's not a bad idea to check into what technology has to offer these days.

Even things as plausibly lifeless as your kitchen sink or bathroom pipes are the subjects of analysis pretty often. Corporations wish to stay at the edge of the envelope, so they create new technologies all of the time.

What's New What is new in plumbing? Technology comes up with new things all of the time, but there are some latest developments that are piquing people's interest. One of these things is epoxy pipe lining. This is actually a new trend in repair. It used to be when a pipe was becoming worn and developing holes, it needed to be completely replaced. With epoxy pipe lining, instead of replacing a pipe, the plumber sandblasts the inside of the pipe to remove corrosion and rusting, then fills it with an epoxy lining that seals it and makes it function good as new.

There are also new types of sinks, such as ones that have an extra, filtered tap just for drinking water, and tankless water heaters that give you continuous hot water but are energy-efficient.

Should You Upgrade? When you learn about something new in plumbing, should you run right out and get it? Not always. Though new technologies have made more energy-efficient appliances and stronger structures, there are still things that you must consider before upgrading. If what you have now isn't too wrinkled, it's potentially OK to hang about for some time before upgrading. If you have an interest in being more energy efficient nevertheless, you might like to consider replacing an old hot water heater, or if your pipes are ten to fifteen years old, you may want to ask a pro about epoxy lining.

Keeping up with the Trends Even if you don't want to upgrade right away, it's still a good idea to stay up on what's new. When you know your options, you can make better choices when you need repairs or upgrades, or perhaps if you're having a new home built. Do a little research now and then to find out what's new and available.

Without doubt they will be coming out with rather more new and thrilling plumbing technologies in the future, and it is often good to understand what they are. Be smart about your decisions, but know all of your options.

Change Decades Of Troublesome Painting For Decades Of Carefree Vinyl Siding

By Todd Fox

You're probably thinking it would take a miracle for the exterior of your house not to lose its paint. Whether you're a handyman who does the work, or someone who takes on the hunt for a painter every few years, making the move to vinyl siding can put an end to that headache.

Vinyl siding products durability can reach from 10 to 15 years and they are incredibly easy to maintain, requiring only a pressure washing to be done occasionally to make them look like they were recently bought from the store.

Vinyl siding is made mostly of Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) resin and can be engineered in a variety of shapes, textures and colors. The only problem with using vinyl siding for your home as opposed to painting, is that you can't change colors whenever you want so you need to be very sure that you'll be comfortable with the color you choose for the next two decades. There is, of course, the paintable vinyl siding, which although more durable than wood, still requires you to perform at least part of the maintenance normally done for painting.

When it comes to texture, you have a variety of choices to match wood grains or particular finishes like cedar or redwood. There are standard styles with visible seams where the pieces overlap, and seamless styles that have no seams for 40 feet, much like seamless guttering. In some cases, to match the style of the house, the panels can be installed either horizontally as they commonly are, or vertically.

You will also want to consider the thickness of the siding, as that affects both how durable it is and the cost. The panels that you can normally find in home improvement centers are the standard type - 0.040- to 0.045-inch thick, and the premium type 0.055-inch thick. The premium grade sidings are mostly recommendable for houses in typically cold-weather areas or located in the vicinity of water.

If you have the standard rectangle-shaped home with average-height walls, with some hard work you can install the siding on your own. Corners, window and door tracks, J-channel and other items will have to be installed, as well as the cutting and installation of the siding. Now, even if it's cheaper this way, you should only do this if you have a lot of spare time on your hands.

If you have decided to enlist the services of a professional to do the installation, try not to get carried away if he presents you with an estimate that is lower than you expected. Be sure to get and check references, not just recent ones, but those they may have done several years ago. Try to get in touch with the owners of those houses and if possible pay them a visit to see how the siding on their homes is doing. You can't have a long-lasting vinyl siding if it is not properly installed, and while you are trying to get away from the maintenance of exterior painting, if the job isn't done right, you may have yet another problem on your hands.

There's an old or perhaps not so old axiom. "It takes time, energy and money to get stuff, keep stuff *and* get rid of stuff."

Junk removal, or throwing out things that we do not want anymore is one thing that we will have to do sooner or later. For those who have been living under the same roof for an extended amount of time, the amount of things that can mount up can be astonishing. Garages are a mess with things that we hold on just in case. New Amazing Sash Windows In A Contemporary Home

By Zara Colwell

Those windows in your house that open from the top and the bottom are called sash windows. They have been in homes for centuries now. They were very popular during the first colonization of the States. They have been around for hundreds of years and their design has not changed too much.

These windows allow for the easier control of an outside breeze. This is done by lowering the top section or raising the lower section. Some of the older types of these windows might have problems with the tracks that allow the sliding. These can be repaired or replaced with modern versions. Many of the modern windows have features like double paned glass or tilting for easier cleaning.

They are called sash because the two sections are called sashes. You may notice that both parts are not the same. This is by design and does not affect the mechanics of the window. Some do have the same size sashes.

When trying to close a section it may become stuck. Most likely there is some debris in the track preventing normal operation. Try to remove the debris. If you force the section it could cause permanent damage to the track or the sash.

When a house settles it can sometimes cause a window frame to become misshaped. If this has happened it might be a good idea to have a professional look at it. If the window has become inoperable then it may require a reshaping or replacement of the frame and a window. Doing this repair on your own can be frustrating and can further the damage.

The windows can also be affected by the weather. Sometimes hot weather will make the windows too loose on the tracks. This can result in a top section crashing down at faster speeds. During the summer use caution when opening the top section. Also make sure to hold the bottom section as you lift it up. It can also come crashing down if it is not secured.

In the winter months the sash windows may be a little harder to open. By using a slow motion and a fair amount of pressure the sections should dislodge. Try to avoid wiggling unless this is the only way you can get it to move. During these months you could use a spray lubricant to keep the sections moving smoothly.

The Good - The Bad - In Men

By Margaret Hardisty

There was an article I read about a man who asked an adviser, "Why do girls go for the bad guys?" He was a decent man he explained. He treated women politely, brought them flowers and generally respected them. Then along comes a charmer who does just the opposite and wins the girl the good guy is hoping to attract.

It may take a different approach and a different set of standards for a man to look at a different type of woman. The standards of most women do not include a rude, ornery vulgar man who treats them like dirt. Only very insecure females who are a bit on the dense side would want that. Or they've been watching too many nasty guy movie characters like Hugh Jackman's in Australia. Even if they find low class guys that exciting before marriage - if they manage to get them to the altar, which is doubtful - they'll soon regret it. When the honeymoon is over the marriage becomes a train wreck. Furthermore, these kinds of guys usually want to save their marriages only to keep their women under their control.

Isn\'t it time to Save Your Marriage

The majority of women would die for men who don't leer, pinch and act lecherous toward them. The potential for making good husbands is there with these nice guys. A good guy like that doesn't unceremoniously grope for his woman's breasts or between her legs when he pops through the door. Even when it's lovemaking time, he treats his darling tenderly, as if he were dealing with a lovely, awesome creature, encouraging her passion to rise gradually. He leaves the gross stuff to cave men and beer guzzling jerks. The good guy usually is very much into preserving his marriage, too.

And frankly, a woman who has an ounce of sense in her body will shun the jerk and go for the guy with class, even if he isn't all that good looking. A woman may find that she is being left by the bad boy she thought was so marvelous; or she might wish to dump him and discovers that's not as easy as she thinks. Save your marriage? We'd say, get hooked up in a good marriage in the first place and you'll want to save it. Already married to the bad boy? Then don't wait until you get dumped to find a solution. We've got the stuff you need to help make things better.

What Cluey Travelers Know

By Abraham Frazier

Most people have been on 1 trip, whether or not that trip was for business or for pleasure, and if that was a short road trip, or a long once in an entire life holiday, the bulk of folk have traveled. What sets the canny traveler apart from all the rest is experience and education in traveling. Traveling is supposed to be enjoyable, except for some it is more delightful then for others. The reason for this is generally how prepared the travelers are. Preparation is generally the difference between a stressful and pleasant experience.

One of the finest ways for travelers to be prepared is by giving him or herself sufficient time to make the necessary preparations, which include booking the necessary transportation, hostels, and other services needed while traveling. These are usually the first steps travelers take before their trip. However , another mandatory preparation, that may be overlooked by those that do not travel regularly is the gathering and studying of maps. There are plenty of people who do this as a pastime, and there are others who never touch maps because they don't understand them and feel they are too much trouble. The streetwise travelers know that maps are an essential part of any trip, whether a short trip on a weekend or a trip around the planet.

The 1st step that was mentioned is gathering maps. There are a few resources available to travelers. A person planning a trip can buy road maps at most stores or gas stations. They can go to their local travel agency and they can also contact the travel and tourism office for their destination, this is done online for those who know the way to use the internet. Other methods for getting travel maps is buying particular ones online or calling the hotel or car rental agency that the traveler will be using and asking them for maps.

Once the maps are collected, the clever travelers will study those maps, not just gather, and pack them. They're going to mark the route, which will be traveled if driving either by car, the entire trip or merely once at the destination by utilizing a rental car. They will circle any places they plan to visit either along the path like rest stops or picturesque sites along the road, with attractions or sites at the destination itself. Savvy travelers will also keep their maps on them while traveling so they can easily be accessed when required. A map will do someone no good if it is packed at the bottom of a suitcase or left at a hotel.

There are certain folk that enjoy the excitement of spontaneity and don't care for planning. This may be all right for speedy weekend journeys to familiar locations ; it isn't always the best idea when traveling to unknown places, especially when journeying to foreign destinations. Savvy travelers know it's best to be prepared, and experience the trip with small stress and bother, which is what anybody hopes for while traveling.
