Boston Bruins' Scoring Legend Phil Esposito

By Ross Everett

Though his scoring records have been obliterated by Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux, former Boston Bruins/New York Rangers center Phil Esposito is still regarded by hockey cognoscenti as one of the greatest offensive players in the history of the game. He is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame, as is his brother Tony Esposito who was a standout goaltender for the Chicago Blackhawks.

Esposito was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and his prodigious hockey talent quickly became apparent. He was signed by the Chicago Blackhawks as a teenager, and made his NHL debut in'64. In'67, Esposito was traded to the Boston Bruins along with Ken Hodge and Fred Stanfield. Within a few years Hodge and Stanfield blossomed into All Stars, while Esposito quickly took his place alongside his former teammate Hull as the best scorer in the league.

It was as a Bruin that 'Espo' began his onslaught against the NHL record book.. In'69, he became the first NHL player to top the 100 point mark (combined goals and assists) for the season"he obliterated the record with 126 points, which would be the first of six times that hed top the century mark. He topped 100 points in five straight seasons between'71 and'75, missing a sixth straight season by a single point with 99 in'70.

In the'70-71 season, Esposito smashed the NHL record for most goals in a season with 76. That record stood for over a decade until Wayne Gretzky scored 79 for the Edmonton Oilers in'81-82. Gretzky also broke Espositos single season points record of 154. Even now, only four other players including Gretzky have scored more than 150 points in a season and only five others have scored more than 76 goals in a season. Perhaps the most amazing element of Espositos game was the frequency with which he put the puck on net"Espo had 550 shots on goal in'70-71. No one has since come close"in fact, just last Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals became the first player to come within 100 shots of Espositos mark.

In'75, Esposito was traded with Brad Park to the New York Rangers for Brad Park, Joe Zanussi and Jean Ratelle. He had slowed somewhat, but was still enough of a valuable player and team leader that he was named the Rangers' captain. He remained a very dangerous scoring threat until the end of his career.

After his retirement in'75, he remained active in hockey. He served as the GM of the Rangers before helping secure an expansion team for Tampa, Florida in'92. Esposito served as the President and GM of the Tampa Bay Lightning until'98. After stepping away from formal duties, he's remained a very visible member of the hockey media. He hosts a daily hockey radio show on XM Radio, and has even done some acting appearing in a recurring role as a fire chief on the TV series Rescue Me.

Special Treatment for Marble Countertops

By Iftikhar Tirmizi

Along with the many services we provide at Peter Brooks Stone Works, our fabrication shop is staffed with some of the finest craftsmen in the industry. They have all been educated on the proper cutting, polishing and installation techniques. We have also pushed our fabricators to keep up with the evolution of the desires of our clients, from special cut edges, such as the Colonial Ogee finished to perfection to assembling mitered edges for a thicker looking countertop. We have also trained our fabricators to create a chiseled edge for a more rustic look on either an outdoor kitchen countertop or a fireplace hearth stone.

Our fabrication facility has been designed using a combination of some of the more traditional stone fabrication processes to greener and more efficient ones. In our shop, all of the projects start out on the table of one of our two Terzago bridge saws. Each bridge saw is cooled with 100% recycled water, using a simple gravity fed separator and a reliable pump.

Once a stone slab that has been personally selected by one of our clients, it is loaded onto the bridge saw table and the first step in creating a stone product begins. The operator of the bridge saw will cut the rough shape of any given project using accurate field measurements and/or a template. After the rough shape of the stone has been completed, it is moved into the finishing process.

At this point a skilled fabricator will place the rough cut stone onto work benches. Through the use of specialized hand tools the fabricator will refine the shape of the stone in conjunction with the template or field measurements. Next the fabricator will use a stone edging machine to cut the desired shape of the edge into the stone. After the desired edge has been cut into the stone, the fabricator will use a hand polishing tool with diamond sanding pads to create a perfect shine on the stones edge. We always achieve the final polish of granite and quartz stone without using chemicals or waxes.

After the edge has been completed and if the project requires any cut-outs, they will then be drawn onto the stone using special markers and it will be carefully cut by a fabricator. The cut-outs are shaped to match a template or exact measurement. If they require a polish (usually for under-mount sink cut-outs) they will be finished with the same process as polishing the stones edge.

Once each product is completed they are thoroughly inspected to meet our high standards of quality. Our installation teams are trained not only in the proper installation of the stone, but they are required to be aware of their surroundings. When they enter someone's home they will always take time and care to prepare the work area so that none of the home owner's belongings are at risk of being damaged. The floor is always covered with drop clothes in the immediate work area. Once the stone has been properly installed the lead installer will inspect the installation and fill out a check list that is part of the home owner's installation and inspection form. At that point the home owner will be asked to inspect the stone then sign off on the job.

Proper safety habits are promoted with the fabrication shop, as well as on the road during our field installations.

Houses For Sale - Calculating All The Costs

By Vanessa Cruz

If you are on the hunt for a new home and looking at some houses for sale in your chosen vicinity, make sure that you know what you are getting into; first-time and even experienced buyers often miscalculate all the costs that are involved in the buying process and in the ownership of a house.

Buying a house in the US is quite a complex process and there are quite a bit of fees and expenses involved; you should familiarize yourself with all of them and find out which are paid by the seller and which by the buyer. Even though you might think that purchasing a house without an agent might save you some money, this isn't necessarily true; an experienced estate agent will successfully guide you through the process and help you make the best decision.

Let's take a brief look at all the costs involved - there are government fees, stamp duty, mortgage insurance, loan costs, legal fees, inspection fees, credit report fees and this is by far not a complete list. On average, purchasing a new house will cost you anywhere from 5% to 8% of the house price; keep that in mind before you start looking at the houses for sale and make sure that you know exactly what price range you can afford.

The first expense that you should carefully look into is the home loan costs - familiarize yourself with the home loan features, make sure that you know what redraw facilities and offset accounts stand for and decide if you really need a loan with many extra features, which loan will probably cost you more. When choosing between fix and variable interest rate, make your choice depending on the number of years you intend to live in your new house; if you think that you will occupy your new home for anywhere between seven to ten years, then you most probably would have to choose a fixed interest home loan.

Government fees and taxes are a mixed bag of flat and percentage fees that you also have to take into consideration; and just to add to the confusion you should keep in mind that the houses for sale in the different states carry different fees.

And when it comes to calculating all the costs of taking a mortgage, you will have to pay title fees, bank fees, mortgage insurance premium and pre-paid items and at the time of this writing a $150 000 FHA loan will cost you more than $7 500 in fees alone.

Even though the real estate market is still fragile and what will happen to the house prices is everybody's guess, now is a good time to look at some of the houses for sale and purchase a new home as ever; however, this is a step that you should take only if you are absolutely ready to become a homeowner. Purchasing a home that you cannot afford or overlooking some of the costs involved will be a disastrous move that you don't want to make.

Live Bands For Wedding Or Are DJ's A Better Option?

By Abi J Ponton

Live bands for wedding entertainment are a great option if you want everyone to remember your day. A good live band will provide fun and excitement for every guests, or you can find a band the will be in the background, creating an ambiance where guests can unwind and visit.

Finding the right live bands for wedding on the internet is one option. A simple google search will yield thousands of results. Deciding on which one is right for you is the tricky part. Once you have decided on the musical style, you can narrow down your search. For example, instead of "wedding bands" enter live jazz bands for weddings.

Good musicians and live bands for weddings have probably worked in the wedding business before. A good band should have a webpage or face book link. This is where you will find a "resume" and be able to listen to their music or view videos from previous jobs.

To make really sure that they are the band you want at your wedding giving a call to some of their previous venues to see how they did there is also a good idea. Or maybe even watch them play at another venue your self?

Having a live band at your wedding requires communication. Make sure that you can get in touch with the band leader to ensure things get coordinated. Many people don't think about the work that goes into getting set up for a wedding, but the band must coordinate with the whole reception area to make sure things are set up right.

Your live wedding band will need ample parking, and close enough to the site to unload equipment. Another consideration for your band is electrical outlets. Make sure that it is easy for your band to unload, set up, play and break down. They will appreciate your efforts, and it will make the experience easier for everyone.

Don't forget to find out if your venue requires a license to play live music. The band will not necessarily take it upon themselves to check, and you don't want to find out you can't have music on the day of the event.

Communication with the band about a sound limiter for your venue. If the music is played too loudly, the equipment gets turned off. There is nothing to worry about as long as the band knows ahead of time and can make accommodations.

Once you have live bands for your wedding arranged, you can sit back and relax. Enjoy the special day with the bride and groom while the music plays in the background.

The Future Of Telecommunications And Geospatial Solutions

By Adriana Noton

If telecommunications and geospatial solutions continue along their current trends, human society will soon be communicating with each on such a huge and fast scale, we may as well be thought of as making up still larger minds and beings. Physical location will be irrelevant. We have tribal instincts that cause us to band to together, and combine that with ever increasing communicative abilities, and the tribes just get larger and larger.

Because we have a tribal instinct, we always want to gather together for survival and success. We have an instinct to follow leaders, and even those leaders have their instincts to follow those that came before. When we gather together, our minds think alike. We then play the other tribes off one another, and benefit from their mistakes and learning from their problems.

There was a time when long distance calls from Yellowknife to Sydney were nothing more than disembodied voices that were separated by gaps between the speaking, as the information was passed along the globe. Then, those pauses became shorter and vanished altogether. Soon, screens gave those voices faces. If you were in Yellowknife, you could talk to people in Sydney like they were right there in the room!

So of course now, the idea is to improve upon this so much that the information itself can be transmitted faster, large chunks of data, communicated from a ski lift in Whistler to an alley in Toronto. No longer will it be limited to offices and homes. Wherever you are located on the globe, you will be able to receive this information quickly. Your physical location will cease to matter entirely. Eventually after that, it will be so normal that people will feel like they're in the same room, even though they're all over the map!

Of course, this is already happening. However, when large enough amounts of spatial data can be sent at fast enough speeds, it will be possible at a much larger scale. The more information we can communicate faster, groups of people will come together that do not require any physical space of their own to exist.

Eventually, there will only be so many of these groups left, their inner communications so fast and so efficient, the people among them may very well be thought of as thinking alike. On that scale, they all do. Of course, individuality on a personal scale will be preserved, but as long as the nuances of their thinking are similar enough, their thoughts as they pertain to the group will be the same. Now, the group is another individual, the average of all the people, and those groups will either merge together or drive away each other.

While all this has been happening, the planet itself will be consolidated even more into the functionable apparatus that sustains all the people, so they can interact as one in their groups. From a large enough perspective, parts of the Earth will be like the giant bodies of these new groups. Similar in scale to one celled organisms, these groups will be like their own living thing, consuming other groups and resources for their own sustenance.

The final future of telecommunications and geospatial solutions is that it will create mass cultures of humans that will eventually come to behave as their own organisms.
